Target Audience

This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of pediatricians and family physicians. It may also benefit other clinicians interested in the management of food allergy (FA).

Educational Provider

This activity is provided by PeerPoint Medical Education Institute, LLC.

Program Overview

Food allergy is an immune-mediated condition driven by abnormal recognition of proteins, often with life-threatening potential. Affecting both children and adults worldwide, food allergies disrupt quality of life and place a significant burden on healthcare systems. This CME activity explores the full arc of food allergy understanding—beginning with molecular biology and immunologic mechanisms, extending through diagnostic strategies, and culminating in evolving therapeutic approaches that aim to move beyond avoidance toward remission. Clinicians will gain insight into the science, the strategy, and the lived experience that shape modern management of food allergies.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the biological and immunologic features that make certain food proteins allergenic and describe the mechanisms driving anaphylaxis and chronic allergic responses.
  • Differentiate among available diagnostic tools—including skin prick, serum IgE, component-resolved diagnostics, patch testing, biomarkers, and functional assays—and apply them appropriately in patient evaluation.
  • Evaluate the evidence supporting early allergen introduction and its role in prevention strategies for families.
  • Compare and contrast therapeutic approaches such as avoidance, OIT, SLIT, SCIT, TIP, and biologics, including their efficacy, safety profiles, and long-term outcomes.
  • Incorporate precision testing, evolving treatment modalities, and patient-centered counseling into clinical workflows to reduce misdiagnosis, improve treatment access, and enhance quality of life for patients with food allergies.
